Beard Transplant Growth by Days, Weeks and Months

Beard transplants are becoming more and more popular each year as patients opt for a permanent solution to alter their style and density of beard hair. Thus beard transplants have become a great solution as they function just like hair transplants but even easier as the number of hair grafts needed for a full beard recovery is significantly less than a hair transplant.

For those who are interested in beard transplant, knowing what to expect is a crucial step in informing them about the potential results and the recovery process altogether. Informing yourself of the particulars of this process will allow you to estimate what your recovery process may look like and what you can expect your beard to look like.

In this timeline we have prepared for you to peruse through beard transplant growth by days, weeks and months to see what you can expect from the transplant realistically and what are some cues you can take in order to fully be aware of what is awaiting you.

Beard Transplant Recovery After 1 day

Beard Transplant Growth after 1 (one) Day

The first day post-operation is usually the most uncomfortable as patients are recovering from the operation. They might experience aching, swelling and/or redness in the area of operation. By the end of this first day the incisions made depending on the method of operation will start forming scabs, as seen as small dots in the photo.

This is a completely healthy process and is a proof of recovery. In order for the incisions to heal they first need to become scabs which will then shed after a few days. The patient should not pick on these scabs as it risks the integrity of the transplant and will definitely risk inflammation or infection in an already sensitive area.

Two weeks post-operation is usually when the patient is settling into their life after a transplant. All the scabs that have formed after the operation have fallen off particularly when the patient has kept up with a washing routine and made sure to use products that are vetted by their clinic.

This photo also reveals that though there may be some shock loss, a term that refers to some loss of transplanted hair which means the transplant is successful no matter how counterintuitive as that may sound, the transplant has settled in slowly but surely the beard is growing healthily.

Two months after a transplant is usually when the patient gets inpatient, many patients are often found asking: “When will I see results after a beard transplant?” Even though your beard is actually showing signs of growth you may feel like it is not enough. But rest assured, this is because the hair growth cycle has only recently started and it takes time for hair to grow “outside”. Don’t worry your hair is slowly but surely growing, it will take some time to grow

3 months post-transplant shows hair shift from being dormant to more of an active growth as hair growth becomes more visible. Notice how the hair looks fuller compared to a month before where it may appear similar in density to a beard without a transplant. From this month on the patient will see growth as the growing hair becomes stronger. At this stage the growing hair may feel weak but don’t worry all these “baby hairs” will lead to stronger hair in days to come.

Beard Transplant Growth after 120 (4 months) Days

After 4 months the beard hair that grows will appear thicker and certainly give the patient some morale boost. Some patients may feel like the growth that is happening is not consistent meaning there might be some patchy areas where the growth is not as intense as the overall appearance.

You will see that these areas will also catch up to the rest of your beard hair growth routine. During this time your hair clinic will advise you to trim some of the hair carefully to boost growth and density in the area. Contact your clinic to learn about how you can trim your beard hair post transplant.

Though some patients may still experience some imbalance it is at this point that patients experience more than 50% of growth for a beard transplant. Most patients will also see patches filling in and hair growing strongly and rapidly.

The growing hair is thicker and resembles “real beard hair” rather than the baby hairs that were growing a month or so ago. Some patients opt for beard-care at this point in the recovery like special hair-care treatments specifically focusing on the hair growing in the beard region.

Make sure to avoid harsh treatments and you should be good to go!
